Dogs don't live forever?

On Monday Madelyn goes to the library and is able to check books out and bring them home.  When she got home from school I asked what book she chose this week.  I am not always sure how she decides what book she is going to pick to check out, but her last selection was a Junie B. Jones books and this time it was a book on Scottish Terriers.  Madelyn brought in the book and told me she was concerned about what it said.  She opened it to the end of the book and pointed to where it said, "Scottish Terriers live to 12-15 years of age."  She started to cry and I told her that I'm sorry but the book is right and that Chloe will not live with us forever on Earth.  Her reply, "then we can get another dog?"  Sorry, but no.  I don't think that Chloe will be replaced!  Madelyn is definitely our animal lover and this brought me back to when I was about her age and I got emotional when my mom gave some of our rabbits away, including my favorite one.  Oh the tears that I shed over the animals that we had growing up!
Madelyn and Chloe the weekend we brought her home.

Alexis has realized this same thing and she gets so sad about it. It is a hard thing for them to go through. I can't imagine when our dog does die how hard it will be on all of us but especially Alexis.

What a sweetheart!!! It's amazing how these little animals grab hold of our hearts!! We do miss them when they are gone BUT what great memories they bring to our lives!!

That made me so sad to read. Hopefully your dog will live at least 15 years and not the 12 years. :)
