What's the most important holiday?

This was a conversation that I had with Madelyn yesterday while I was making dinner and she was working on homework. Often times I am not sure if our kids are listening and paying attention to what we try to teach them, but Madelyn proved me wrong.

Madelyn: "Mom, what is the most important holiday?"
Mom returning the question right back at her: "What do you think is the most important holiday?"
Madelyn: "I think in it is the Spring when we celebrate Easter. That is when we celebrate Jesus and how he died on the cross for us and was resurrected. I think that is the most important holiday."
Mom: "Yes, I think that is an important holiday too...then do you know why we celebrate Christmas?" (I was expecting her to say something about Santa, but she didn't even mention him.)
Madelyn: "We celebrate Christmas to celebrate Jesus' birth."
Mom: "Then what does Santa have to do with Christmas?"
Madelyn: A priceless look of "I don't know"!
Mom: "Santa teaches us that it is more important to give to others than to receive."

What do you think is the most important holiday?

That's great. Way to go Madelyn! And way to go Kim for teaching her that! Jackson is excited for Christmas just so he can get "so many new toys."

I LOVE LOVE Christmas because of the celebrating of our Saviors birth but I also LOVE being with family!! Way to go for teaching your children so well!! My son, Garrett, asked me yesterday, "What does Silent Night have to do with Christmas? It's not even a Christmas song!" Boy do I have a lot more to teach! =)

I can't take all the credit for teaching them! Jon usually does the explaining when we read scriptures and Madelyn has awesome Primary teachers too, Bro. Little and Bro. DeMille.

Nice job Madelyn! I wish my kids would think a little more about Jesus and a little less about Santa at this time of year! We missed you guys at Thanksgiving!

WOW-what a great conversation to have with your (almost) 8 year old. You have obviously taught her well!
Besides the obvious Christmas and Easter-I love the message of Thanksgiving-to be thankful for what we have.
