Jon took a few days off and we gave the kids a choice of what to do. We told them we could go to Knott's Berry Farm or camping or wherever. They asked to go to Grandma and Papa McCune's house. Jon really wanted to camp, so we decided to camp at Quail Creek one night and then went to Grandma and Papa's.
Of course things couldn't go right for our overnighter! We got to Quail Creek and it was really, really windy! We got our ten man tent out and started putting it together. We have only used this tent one other time (in our backyard), so it took us a little bit of time to remember how to put it up. Just before we put the final poles up, one of the poles bends in half! Seriously! I was ready to throw the towel in and head back to Grandma and Papa's, but we didn't. We packed the tent back up and took it back to Costco and hoped to find a new one that would work. We weren't sure if we wanted to buy the tent at Costco, so we went to a few other stores and ended up with a 5 man tent from Walmart (until we can find a tent we really like).
We made it back to the campsite in time to get our tent set up (which was much easier than the 10 man tent)! The kids swam in the water, we cooked foil dinners, roasted marshmallows, and sat around the campfire being silly!
