P...the letter of the week!

Today was Aubrey's day to bring in snacks for preschool! Ms. Sheree has asked that we try and bring a snack that corresponds with the letter they are working on in school. This week they are working on "P", so Aubrey and I decided to make pretzels in the shape of "P's". Aubrey was quite funny about making sure everything was perfect with each letter and she kept asking, "are these uppercase or lowercase P's?"
It was also pajama day at school, which she thought was the greatest thing! Aubrey often declares some days as pajama day and this is just one more day for her to enjoy in her pj's!
Mall Pretzels
  • 2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/8 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread flour

  • 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons coarse kosher salt

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast, brown sugar and salt in 1 1/2 cups warm water. Stir in flour and mix for 3-5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, and turn to coat the surface. Cover, and let rise for one hour.
  2. Combine 2 cups warm water and baking soda in an 8 inch square pan.
  3. After dough has risen, cut into 12 pieces. Roll each piece into a 3 foot rope, pencil thin or thinner. Twist into a pretzel shape, and dip into the baking soda solution. Place on parchment covered cookie sheets (or foil sprayed with pam), and let rise 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt, garlic salt or cinnamon sugar.

Man you never cease to amaze me. What a fun way to do the letter of the week. I also like that the "P's" are in a Christmas tin! It just reminds me that it is still pretty cold!

I love the "P"s. I was thinking I should make those for Tyson's preschool group next week, but the letter is "Q"! Have any fun Q ideas!?
